Minulla oli suuri ilo olla Tapiola Sinfoniettan kausisäveltäjänä 2010-11 – kyseisessä orkesterissa tehdään musiikkia sekä huipputaidolla että -asenteella. Tilausteos Le miroir courben (“Kaareva peili”) kantaesitys ajoittui kauden lopulle. Tapiolalaisten soinnillinen kvaliteetti sai seuraa mezzosopraano Virpi Räisäsen taidokkuudesta ja sielukkaasta äänestä – yhteistyö sekä hänen että kapellimestarina toimineen Anna-Maria Helsingin kanssa oli hieno kokemus.
Olen seurustellut ranskalaisen Yves Bonnefoyn (synt. 1923) runojen kanssa jo vuosia – Helena Sinervon 2002 ilmestynyt ansiokas suomennoskokoelma johdatti minut sangen pian myös alkuperäisten tekstien äärelle. “Bonnefoy on profaani mystikko, jolle runous on väline, tie olevaisen ytimeen”, kirjoittaa runoilijasta Sinervo. “Maailman kokeminen läsnäolona, merkityksen ja yhtenäisyyden oivaltaminen, on jotakin olennaisempaa kuin sanat.” Omaan teokseeni valitsin Bonnefoylta kolme runoa. Laulusarjani osien nimet ovat 1. tu sauras qu’un oiseau 2. le miroir courbe sekä 3. suffisance des jours.
I had a pleasure to be a composer-in-residence of Tapiola Sinfonietta during the season 2010-11 – it is an orchestra with a very high quality and great attitude. The orchestra performed several of my works, and commissioned a song cycle called Le miroir courbe, which they premiered in May 2011. The soloist was mezzo-soprano Virpi Räisänen, who is a skillful singer with a beautiful voice – the co-operation with both Virpi and the conductor Anna-Maria Helsing was a very good experience.
The text of the song cycle is by Yves Bonnefoy, whose poems I have been reading for years now – first in Finnish translations and later more and more in the original French. The titles of the three movements are: 1. tu sauras qu’un oiseau 2. le miroir courbe and 3. suffisance des jours.
